Roman Britain
In history, we will be investigating the following questions:
1. Was the Roman army really as Powerful as History suggests? 2. Why did the Roman’s want to invade Britain when they were already so successful? 3. Did the Celts try to resist the Roman invasion? 4. Did the Romans have an impact on Britain during the Roman era and in today’s modern world? 5. What was life like in the North West during Roman times? |
HISTORY
During the Autumn term, Year 4 will travel back in time to explore the ROMAN EMPIRE and the impact it had on Britain. The children will explore early Rome and meet the many leaders of the Roman Empire. They will discover why Julius Caesar failed to invade, but Claudius was successful. Year 4 will also compare Roman and Celtic settlements and meet Queen Boudicca and explore how she resisted the Romans. They will also discover how the Romans protected their lands and understand the impact the Romans had on Britain in the past and today.
GEOGRAPHY
In Geography this Autumn, Year 4 children will be learning about settlements. We will look at what settlements are and identify what makes a good settlement. We will focus on Roman settlements and plan our own Roman village. In addition to this we will also develop mapwork skills by listing different types of land use; Identify land use using a digital map and use an atlas to find a route between two places.
CLASS NOVEL and PATHWAYS TO WRITE TEXT
This Autumn, Year 4 children will enhance their writing and grammar skills through the engaging story of "Gorilla" by Anthony Browne. In addition to this, we will also be reading "The Demon Headmaster" by Gillian Cross.
CHILDREN'S RIGHTS AND SDGs
This Autumn, Year 4 children will be learning about children's rights, focusing on Right 17 - Access to information. Additionally, children will explore Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11), which focuses on sustainability.
PSHE Jigsaw Units for Autumn 1 - Being Me in the World
In the Autumn term, Year 4 children will focus on the PSHE Jigsaw unit "Being Me in the World." They will learn how to work effectively as a team and how to be part of our school community. Children will also explore the positive benefits of democracy and having a voice in their community.
