PE and Sport
Intent
At Egerton, our PE curriculum aims to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in a wide range of physical activities and competitive sports. We want every child to develop physical confidence, health, and fitness, alongside essential life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and respect. Our curriculum is fully inclusive and designed to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, ensuring every child can access, engage with, and make sustained progress in PE. Cross-curricular links with PSHE and Science reinforce pupils’ understanding of healthy lifestyles, wellbeing, and the science behind physical fitness. Through high-quality PE, enrichment opportunities, and extracurricular sport, we aim to foster a lifelong love of physical activity while developing leadership, personal development, and a strong sense of community.
Implementation
- All pupils engage in at least 2 hours of PE per week, with additional opportunities through the Daily Mile and access to sporting equipment and group games at break and lunchtimes led by Year 6 Phys Kids leaders.
- Egerton benefits from Mutliflex support and partnerships with local sports clubs and coaches, enhancing specialist teaching, supporting staff CPD, and providing access to a broad range of sports.
- Pupils participate in competitive and non-competitive opportunities through the Knutsford Schools Sports Partnership, including cross country, netball, football, athletics, tennis, and dance, as well as links with Knutsford Academy.
- Weekly swimming lessons develop water confidence, lifesaving skills, and the ability to swim at least 25 meters.
- Annual sports days celebrate participation and achievement, with events for EYFS/KS1 and KS2.
- PE lessons are differentiated to meet individual needs, including adaptations for SEND pupils, and provide challenge for more able pupils, ensuring all children make progress.
- Assessment is ongoing, using the PE skills progression framework to track pupil development, identify gaps, and plan targeted support. Pupils’ progress is monitored over time, and next steps are planned to ensure continued achievement.
- Teachers use the PE skills progression and vocabulary documents to plan lessons that build on prior learning, ensure clear progression, and support accurate assessment of all pupils.
